At RB Community, becoming a member is more than putting your name on a roster. It’s about entering into a covenant community — a living, breathing expression of faith in Christ that grows stronger through shared commitment and discipleship.
1. Covenant Commitment
Membership is a public affirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ and your promise to follow Him within this congregation.
When someone joins RB Community, the church family responds with a vow of its own — to nurture, guide, and support them. It’s a mutual relationship of discipleship and accountability, a visible sign that faith is meant to be lived out in community, not isolation.
“So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” — Romans 12:5
2. Spiritual Care and Pastoral Oversight
Members are under the spiritual care of the Session, the council of elders elected to lead the congregation.
This means:
Pastors and elders pray for, guide, and counsel members.
Members participate fully in the sacraments and spiritual life of the church.
In times of crisis or need, the church doesn’t just assist — it shepherds.
Becoming a member ensures you are spiritually seen, known, and cared for.
3. Participating in Christ’s Mission
Membership brings both ownership and opportunity in the mission of the church.
As a member, you can:
Vote, serve, and lead — on committees, in ministries, or as a Ruling Elder or Deacon.
Discern God’s will for the congregation alongside others.
Engage in mission locally and globally through the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s connectional system — a network of churches working together for Christ’s kingdom.
Membership moves believers from consuming to contributing, from being served to serving. It deepens discipleship through shared worship, giving, and ministry.
In the Presbyterian tradition, authority is shared through elected elders — embodying the conviction that the Holy Spirit works through the whole body, not just the clergy.
4. Belonging and Identity
In a constantly changing world, joining a church provides a spiritual home — a sense of rootedness and belonging.
Membership says, “These are my people; this is my place to grow.” It affirms that faith is both personal and communal, and that the local church is God’s chosen instrument for forming disciples.
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” — 1 Corinthians 12:25–26
To become a member is to say: “I belong to Christ, and I belong to His people here.”
5. Accountability and Nurture
Membership invites loving accountability — encouragement in weakness, correction when we drift, and celebration in faithfulness.
This is part of sanctification: being shaped together into Christ’s likeness.
“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” — Hebrews 3:13
When you become a member, you declare: “I want to grow, serve, give, and be accountable within this family of faith.”
A Covenant of Belonging
At RB Community, membership is not a finish line — it’s a step deeper into the life of Christ’s body. It’s how we grow together, serve one another, and join God’s ongoing story of grace in the world.
