CHILDCARE WORKER HOURS/WEEK – AS REQUESTED

LEVEL 1: NON-EXEMPT

I. MAJOR PURPOSE
Provide safe and developmentally appropriate program support for the Childcare Ministry.

II. SCOPE
Perform a variety of childcare support duties as assigned by the Childcare Coordinator. Exhibit respect of children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.

III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Interact with children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing
B. Support the social and emotional development of children
C. Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children
D. Check in and out children participating in the program
E. Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including changing diapers or soiled clothing and washing hands
F. Maintain a safe environment based on safety standards set by the program
G. Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the child care rooms at the end of the day, as well as putting away any equipment
H. Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis
I. Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program
J. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
K. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Childcare Coordinator
L. Provide for the safety and well-being of children in accordance with the RBCPC Protection Policy

IV. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Observe and monitor children's play activities.
B. Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
C. Instruct children in health and personal habits such as eating, resting, and toilet habits.
D. Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
E. Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games.
F. Assist in preparing food for children and serve snacks to children.
G. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
H. Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas.
I. Dress children and change diapers.
J. Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, and changing of linens.
K. Support children's emotional and social development, by encouraging their understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
L. Sanitize toys and play equipment.
M. Redirect children and recommend or initiate other measures to control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books.
N. Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to parents' or guardians' attention.

V. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
A. Reports directly to the Childcare Coordinator.
B. Relates as a colleague to church staff to ensure that staff relations are team oriented.
C. Participates in appropriate Childcare training and meetings.
D. Has access to the Human Resources Committee of the Session in accordance with the Policy and Procedure Manual of RBCPC.

VI. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Knowledge and experience in the field of early childhood education.
B. Passion for young children and their families.
C. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress
D. Ability to routinely lift children, move furniture in an early childhood classroom and sustain long hours of active work
E. Professional, friendly, flexible, patient, resourceful, helpful, reliable, good listener

VII. REQUIREMENTS
A. US Citizen or authorized to work in the US.
B. Good physical health
C. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
D. Ability to lift up to 150 pounds with assistance.
E. Ability to stand or walk up to 7 hours a day.
F. Ability to push or pull equipment such as carts, etc.
G. Requires flexibility of time and days of week.
H. Requires work on Sundays and some holidays.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
