The song “Goodness of God” was a great summary of the sermon last week. The idea is that we can turn to God anytime – not just on Sunday mornings. God’s goodness is running after us, and His mercy never fails us. He holds us in His hands and has been faithful to us always.
Shalom means peace, harmony, wholeness, and completeness. We can take refuge in the righteousness of God. When Cush pursued David with false accusations, David chose to take refuge in God rather than attacking his accuser’s character. We can seek mercy for ourselves and those who hurt us by turning to God. We are angry that someone is going up against us, and we make mistakes. However, Jesus is praying for us to get through this. He isn’t judging our struggle, but is actively supporting our recovery.
Move away from the noise of the world and into the quiet confidence of God’s definition of us. Peace is a stronghold we can step into while the pressure is still very much present.
