The sermon last week started with a prayer saying that we hope this sermon would help us to be more a part of being with God. Our form is a call to find out who we are, figuring out where we belong, and determining what our purpose is. We know God is there for us, and we try to determine what we can do to make a difference for others. We can feel a nudge from God to take our next step. Jesus meets people in their everyday environments like he met Peter with his fishing boat. Even when Peter was exhausted from a night of no fish, he chose to obey because of Jesus’ authority – “Because you say so, we will go”. Jesus asked Peter to go fishing again, and they filled two boats with fish. The miracle of the two overflowing boats of fish proved that Jesus is trustworthy and provides beyond our capacity. Peter answered the call, and it was an act of grace. Peter felt unworthy, but God makes the call clear to us so we know our purpose. God uses people who have sinned, showing that our value comes from His grace rather than from our own perfection. Jesus is the one we can follow since he is the “real deal”. People can be made alive and can be saved. We can leave our own “nets” behind to join in the restoration of the world. Lord, call me and use me. You have given me life! An example Pastor Jason gave was that he started as a guitar player without knowing he would be a pastor. God meets us in our everyday environments and calls with a purpose. As we move through these 40 days, we are reminded that being called is an invitation to be sent into the harvest and capturing souls for a kingdom that makes all things new.
