Intro to Sew Sunday: Hands, Hearts, and Generational Connections
The High School room was buzzing with energy, community, and the comforting smell of breakfast during our recent Intro to Sew Sunday. Students gathered over plates of breakfast to learn the timeless art of sewing, partnering directly with the talented members of our church’s Quilting Ministry.
The morning blended practical skill-building with generational connection. Our quilting team patiently guided students through the fundamentals of needle and thread, including an essential life skill: sewing and repairing a button. Beyond the basics, the heart of the morning centered on using creativity as an act of care.
Students put their new skills into immediate action by crafting Prayer Squares—small, hand-sewn tokens meant to bring comfort to those in need. Half of the crafted squares were donated to our congregation's care team to be gifted to members navigating difficult seasons, hospital stays, or recovery. The students took home the remaining squares to give to friends, family members, or peers who needed a tangible reminder that they are loved and supported.
