The Student Anchor Program: Connection Made Simple
At RB Community, we want every student who walks through our courtyard to feel like they belong—not just in a youth room, but in our entire church family. We aren't looking for teachers or experts. We are looking for Anchors: consistent, friendly faces who make our courtyard feel like home.
If you’re worried that you don’t know "youth culture" or have all the answers, don’t be. We've designed this to be the lowest-pressure way to make a lifelong impact.
The Gold Standard: If you can drink a cup of coffee and say, "Hey, good to see you!"—you are already overqualified.
What Does an Anchor Do?
Being an Anchor isn't about running a program; it's about being a "it's friendly landmark" in the crowd. It boils down to three simple things:
The Wave: Give a genuine smile and a wave when you see a student in the courtyard.
The Name: Make it a goal to learn a student's name. There is nothing more powerful than being recognized in a busy place.
The Prayer: Keep those students in your heart during the week. Just a simple, "Lord, bless [Name] at school this week," goes a long way.
Why You? (Yes, You!)
Students don't need more "cool" friends—they need stable adults who acknowledge their presence. Whether you're a grandparent of one of their friends or just a random adult from our church, your greeting is a bridge that reminds them they belong here. No meetings, no manuals, no pressure. Just a hand to wave and a heart to pray.
Ready to drop anchor?
We'd love to have you on the team. Let us know you're interested, and we'll help you get started with a few names to look out for! Email richard@rbcommunity.org to get connected with some students.
