Jesus never treated people with disdain. Those in God’s kingdom are given mercy and grace. We can see the problems people have and can help them. We can serve others and forgive them as we can be forgiven. We show mercy and compassion not just in times of crisis, but in how we support and value one another’s unique contributions to our church family. Last week, I donated to the Flower Ministry since they had an open week. The first thing I thought of was to appreciate all of the people who volunteer at this church. I loved the scripture they added to the dedication: 1 Corinthians 12:27 – “Now you are the Body of Christ and each of you is a part of it.” Each of us share the gifts we have been given by God. The Flower Ministry volunteers have special gifts to put together those flowers each week. When you get all of us together, you see what can be accomplished! Wow! We see mercy and compassion in action within this church. We are a team when you bring us all together. We give others the grace and space to shine in their own way. Our church stepped in to help in 2007 when fires destroyed many homes and businesses in Rancho Bernardo. We showed mercy to the people in this community. God empowered us. Mercy is for everyone. God shows us mercy, and we can share that with others. At the end of the service, we were encouraged to welcome moments of silence and take a pause to digest these truths. We can pray for our volunteers so they know God is with them and giving them mercy. God has given us love and kindness to show others. Reflections from Deborah Kelly.
