Reflection For January 17

God is in charge but does not dominate us. He is in charge even when earthly powers seem to be dominating. He offers peace and new life no matter what is going on around us. Jesus entered humanity and understood us as people in a deep way. Thanks be to God for his grace and love for us. The ministry of John the Baptist served as a vital preparation for the Messiah, calling for a repentance that goes beyond ritual to a genuine transformation of the heart. John highlighted that a heart focused on God naturally results in peace and a life of service to others. We give food and clothes to others to help them. The baptism of Jesus was about stepping into the water alongside the crowds to fulfill all righteousness. At his baptism, God declared, “You are my beloved son”, affirming his identity and new life. Adam’s disobedience brought death, but Jesus remained the true and perfect human. We can repent and be baptized, and then our heart will be transformed and nourished. Baptism reminds us that we are held by Amazing Grace, inviting us to live as God’s beloved children. We are empowered by the new life He breathes into us. We have a chance to produce fruit that proves our hearts have changed. Prayer can nourish your heart and keep it nourished after baptism. Here is a breath prayer to practice this week: 1. Inhale – Say “I am your beloved child.” 2. Exhale – Say “…in whom You are well pleased.” Reflections from Deborah Kelly.
