Reflection for February 14

Happy Valentine’s Day! I saw a greeting card this week that said, “May God Bless You with Abundant Joy on Valentine’s Day and Always!" This is perfect since I was thinking about the sermon last week that love is given to us from God and Jesus. Jesus gives us hope and eternal joy. Jesus is our healer and forgives our sins. Jesus has divine authority to forgive sins and heal the sick. He performed miracles like catching two boats full of fish and healing a paralyzed man. He emphasized that we should leave our old lives and respond with faith to his transformative call to be 'fishers of men’. We are sinners who have been forgiven, and we can do this since we have Jesus. We know how important Jesus is to our lives. He is the Son of Man and the child of God. We had hymns last week that were about our wholeness being found in the community around us. Just as the four friends refused to let the crowd stop them from getting their paralyzed companion to Jesus, we are called to be 'roof-removers' for one another. We are with each other in this church; when we work together, we are there for each other. We can pray for each other, give hope and understanding, and help restore each other. We are called to be those friends who bring the broken to the Healer and trust that in His community, we find a wholeness that reaches the whole world. Thank you Jesus for giving us hope and joy!
