Reflections for september 20

We need each other. We don’t have to agree with each other, but we need the unity and generosity of a community. We are one in heart and mind. We need to follow Jesus together. I was thinking about how much time we spend on phones and streaming shows on TV. Many people are isolated and don’t have the chance to gather with others. Pastor Moore even stressed the idea and importance of making eye contact with others and having proximity to others. This reminds me of the challenging time of COVID-19 spreading and how we were isolated at home and wearing masks to keep from getting the virus. That was a tough time since we didn’t have each other in person. The scripture from Acts 4:31-35 describes the unity and generosity of the early Christian community in Jerusalem. Believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed private ownership of their possessions; instead, they shared everything in common. This unity was demonstrated by the actions of people who distributed funds to anyone who had a need. We are here to help each other and share God's love by giving our time, talent, and treasure. You can see this love in action after church, when we connect on the patio, and in all the ways our community cares for one another. To learn more about how you can join one of our many ministries that serve our congregation and community, or how you can be helped in your time of need, please attend the Congregational Care Ministry Fair on Sunday, October 6.
