Reflections for November 8

The sermon was about the Parable of the Good Samaritan which emphasized the need for unconditional love and active compassion. We need to love and serve everyone. The example in the parable was about a priest and Levite who walked past a suffering man. They didn’t bother to help this person and show love. A Samaritan stopped to help this person without inquiring about their background or political affiliation. We need to approach someone in need with care and compassion no matter what. Christ crossed the boundary to come to us, because He loves us unconditionally. Jesus taught that this active, compassionate love is the fulfillment of the Law, making everyone our neighbor. John Wesley said, “Do all the good you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can.” Gentiles were separated people. Samaritans didn’t trust Jews, and Jews didn’t trust Samaritans. Priests were supposed to care for everyone, and Levites were supposed to assist the priests. Yet, the priest and Levite walked past this suffering man. This is similar to today’s world with politics, different countries, and different beliefs that come between us. This Parable shows us how we can live our lives and care for others no matter the differences between us. Who is our neighbor? We can be a neighbor to everyone! God loves everyone! Thank you to everyone here in our church family for sharing your love! We are growing together! Reflections from Deborah Kelly.
