COVID Has Not Stopped Us from Serving Others

Exactly one year ago the Outreach Ministry started our Saturday morning Drive Thru Drop Off events and they have been very successful in helping our congregation serve families in need within our local communities. Clearly, folks among us want to help and just need an opportunity to serve others. Our March outreach efforts resulted in the following:

  • 8 grocery carts full of canned goods, cereals, pasta/sauces, fresh produce, and sweet treats for local families served by 4-Community Care food pantry

  • 5 SUV vehicles full of infant and toddler diapers, wipes, hygiene products, and clothing. Plus, several bags of knitted blankets and caps from our sewing groups. Donations were delivered to Alternative Medical Clinic, Door of Hope, Life Choices, STEP, and Solutions for Change

  • 200 lunches packed and delivered to Interfaith Community Services by Scott, Melissa, and Madeleine Boedecker and the Chuck & Nancy Deckert/ Dave & Debbie Ochs crew

  • 15 units of blood collected for the San Diego Blood Bank which helps 45 people in need of blood properties

  • April 3rd we collected a car full of grocery supplies for New Day Urban Ministries Collecting items on Saturday mornings has been a fun and rewarding experience however, the real joy comes in delivering our donations to the various agencies. People who see the need on-a-daily basis recognize the generosity of our congregation and appreciate YOU for helping THEM help OTHERS. Mark your calendar for these upcoming Saturday morning drive thru collection dates in April and May:

  • April 17 – collecting household cleaning supplies for families going from transitional housing to their first apartment through Interfaith and Solutions for Change

  • May 1 – grocery collection for 4 Community Care food pantry serving families within Poway Unified School District boundaries

  • May 15 – collecting travel size and regular size hygiene products for migrant girls being housed at the San Diego Convention Center

  • Also, looking for families and small groups interested in packing lunches for clients served by Interfaith Community Services
