Assurance

Assurance

When we rest in the Lord, we find peace that the world aches to have, that it aches to hold. Peace is so fleeting for so many people. For too many, it seems to appear like a sunny day off, when there’s enough spare time to just sit, chat, have something to drink and eat. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jesus said this to his disciples and to us. The assurance that we have in Christ is one that delivers a confident peace, a peace that doesn’t fluctuate like sun and clouds, like storms and calms, like good days and bad days. The peace of Jesus permeates our being and helps us to relax, to see things differently, to react differently, and to move ahead. When we gather in worship, especially on Resurrection Sunday, we gain a community support of that peace. We pass it to each other with greetings, with songs, with shared Scriptures and prayers. It is all built on the basis of our relationship with the Father and the presence of the Spirit in our souls. The assurance that is expressed in peace breaks down barriers between us and others, unites us with them, and begins the healing of the world from within us. Blessings, Geoff
