Holy Week Hymn Sing: Thursday, April 9
Were You There?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
O sometimes it causes me to tremble tremble tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree
O sometimes it causes me to tremble tremble tremble
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree
Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley
Jesus walked this lonesome valley, he had to walk it by himself;
O nobody else could walk it for him, he had to walk it by himself.
Jesus prayed for his disciples; he prayed alone for you and me.
O, nobody else could bear such sorrow; he prayed alone for you and me.
Jesus died on Calvary’s mountain; he died alone for you and me.
O nobody else could die for sinners; he had to die for you and me.
Ah, Holy Jesus
Ah, holy Jesus, how have you offended,
That mortal judgement has on you descended?
By foes derided , by your own rejected,
O most afflicted!
Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon you?
It is my treason, Lord, that has undone you.
‘Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied you;
I crucified you.
Therefore, dear Jesus, since I cannot pay you,
I do adore you, and will ever pray you,
Think on your pity and your love unswerving,
Not my deserving.
What Wondrous Love
What wondrous love is this, O my soul O my soul
What wondrous love is this O my soul
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul for my soul
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul
When I was sinking down, sinking down sinking down
When I was sinking down sinking down
When I was sinking down beneath God's righteous frown
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul for my soul
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul
To God and to the Lamb I will sing I will sing
To God and to the Lamb I will sing
To God and to the Lamb who is the Great I Am
While millions join the themenI will sing I will sing
While millions join the theme I will sing
Lamb of God
Your only Son no sin to hide
But You have sent Him from Your side
To walk upon this guilty sod
And to become the Lamb of God
Your gift of love they crucified
They laughed and scorned Him as He died
The humble King they named a fraud
And sacrificed the Lamb of God
REFRAIN:
Oh Lamb of God sweet Lamb of God
I love the holy Lamb of God
Oh wash me in His precious blood
My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God
I was so lost I should have died
But You have brought me to Your side
To be led by Your staff and rod
And to be called a lamb of God
(REFRAIN)
Jesus Paid it All
I hear the Savior say thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness watch and pray find in Me thine all in all
REFRAIN:
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow
Lord now indeed I find Thy pow'r and Thine alone
Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone
(REFRAIN)
And when before the throne I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save my lips shall still repeat
(REFRAIN)
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross my sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life, I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything no gifts no pow’r no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward, I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart, His wounds have paid my ransom
What Grace is Mine
(sung to “Danny Boy” LONDONDERRY AIR)
What grace is mine that He who dwells in endless light
Called through the night to find my distant soul
And from His scars poured mercy that would plead for me
That I might live and in His name be known
REFRAIN:
So I will go wherever He is calling me
I lose my life to find my life in Him
I give my all to gain the hope that never dies
I bow my heart take up my cross and follow Him
What grace is mine to know His breath alive in me
Beneath His wings my wakened soul may soar
All fear can flee for death's dark night is overcome
My Savior lives and reigns forevermore
(REFRAIN)
